Understanding Birds of Prey & Reptiles in Historic Rugby
In the Community Building behind Visitor's Centre on Saturday at 10:00 am  (ET). An exceptional program of slides and live exhibits of birds of prey and reptiles with a focus on natural history and ecological roles of various predators.  Instructors Katie Cottrell, Kathy Strunk & John Byrd work with the Clinch River Raptor Center . The Center has been rescuing, tending, and releasing sick or wounded owls, hawks and reptiles for 23 years. They have tended over 1,700 animals, and are experts in sharing un-releasable birds and reptiles in schools and workshops throughout East Tennessee .
Advance reservation if possible. Fee is $12 for adults,  $4 for K-8 students accompanied by adult. Bring camera and/or notebook. Donation from fee will be made to Clinch River Raptor Center .

The band’s leader, Larry Edmondson, has been Historic Rugby’s board chair for the past three years, and is joined by fellow Cookeville and area residents for this benefit concert
 to raise funds for Historic Rugby’s restoration and preservation.   Legacy will share old favorites from the 60s, 70s and 80s including songs from the Eagles, Moody Blues, Chuck Berry, Bob Seger and Eric Clapton. 4th Annual History Hay Ride at the Park
The Friends of Edgar Evins State Park will sponsor the event at 3:30 p.m. There will be approx.  12 stops along the way where visitors will hear about the history of the area dating from the time when the area was hunting grounds for native American tribes up through the present day. Cost is $10.00 per pers. age 13 and older & $5.00 age 12 and under. Reservations are required and the park will begin taking them on Sept. 1. Rides will be staggered approximately 30 minutes apart and will take approx. 1.5 hours to complete. Hear from a local anonymous Moonshine maker from the 1930's and his cohort, a local moonshine hauler who was never caught by law enforcement or a member of a posse from 1910 who had a close call and didn't even realize it and hear from Park namesake Mr. J. Edgar Evins as he tells of early life in DeKalb County.

The Cumberland County Chess Club will host their Fall Open Chess Tournament at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Join Cordell Hull State Park staff as we remember Pearl Harbor Day. Throughout the day, enjoy a display and slideshow commemorating the day in 1941 that compelled the United States to enter World War II. Cordell Hull was U.S. Secretary of State during this dark period of American history.

Old Fashioned Christmas at the Birthplace.

Join park staff as we celebrate the holidays the way they were enjoyed in the late nineteenth century, the time period in which former Secretary of State Cordell Hull lived in the this rural area on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau. Festivities begin at 6PM and include old fashioned holiday music, lantern-lit trail hikes, refreshments and seasonal decorations in the restored birthplace cabin.
